My Paw Paw
by Eric Clayton Wade
I will never forget the sorrow I felt,
As quietly beside my bed I knelt.
In agony I cried as my heart slowly bled,
And felt as if I would be better off dead.
Where have I seen this before,
It was standing outside the bathroom door.
He lie there without any feeling,
At first I thought he was healing.
I suddenly realized it was not to be,
My precious Paw Paw was about to leave me.
They all held hands to pray,
While the kids were wishing he would stay.
My dad walked up and held my hand,
We both walked slowly to the van.
We drove quickly to my aunts,
It was cold so I put on my long pants.
Then we got the call my Paw Paw had passed away,
I was sad we all wished he could have stayed.
My mom and I were all broken up,
Later she came to pick me up.
To my family
"I love you all"
